Glad to on a long break from work, giving me ample time to continue my local café hunting. Spent my weekend brunch at Froth café; located right beside the check-in lobby of Big Hotel. Unlike majority of the cafés in Singapore, this one got to be the most spacious one. Because of the huge dining area, there is enough privacy between tables, enough space to pass through.

In case of overcrowding and queue, the food buddy made reservation for us. When we arrived, our table was spotted instantly with the help of the adorable chalk board notice stand. I love it when cafés provide bottle of water for consumers; save the need to keep calling for refills. While waiting for our orders, I look around and notice how conducive the environment was. There wasn’t any noise clutter; it was pleasantly peaceful, which explains a few of the consumers taking advantage of the place to study or do their work. I would too.

Mixed Mushroom Tempura ($9.90) - As a mushroom addict, this is a must to order. The huge bowl of battered button mushroom, enoki and shiitake is great for sharing. Fried food is definitely tasteful but the downside is that, mushrooms are quick to oil absorption. Even with a thin coat of batter, they came out to be a little too oily.

Chili Crab Spaghetti ($20.90) - The homemade chili crab sauce is unlike what I expected; it was more of a tangy spicy tomato sauce instead. Not traditional, fell short of expectation but still flavourful, plus points for topping it up with roe, giving each mouth of goodness an extra crunchy bite. Extra points for the effort to cut deep fried buns into funky heart shapes, but I feel it doesn’t match the classy presentation.

Cheesy Lobster Sandwich ($22.90) - I’ve came across old images of the dish over Instagram and I thought it wasn’t appealing. But since it is graded ‘Chef Recommendation’, we had to order it. I was completely taken aback with its appearance when served. They took off the burger buns, replaced it with toast and instead of covering up the ingredients, chunky lobster meat are visible now and definitely a feast to the eye. The vibrant colour combination had my mouth watered right away. Just one mouth of the round lobster chunk coated with torched mentai mayo, topped with tobiko, and I was sold. That must be what it felt like – Foodgasm.

We changed the fries to truffle fries at an addition top-up of $3. Pretty costly if you ask me. Unlike the sandwich, the truffle fries was quite hard, it was disappointing.

Strawberry Shortcake ($8.90) - There is always space for dessert to end the meal on a sweet note. Unfortunately for us, we made a wrong choice for dessert. It was nothing like strawberry shortcake except how they displayed it with layer of cake, cream cheese topped with sliced strawberries. The cake was dry and tasteless, it crumbled to bits upon contact; we let it go after finishing the strawberries.

The minimalistic-industrial interiors and spacious area made the overall dining experience a nice and comfortable one. We had our eye set on their highly raved Taro ice-cream waffle but ended up ordering the strawberry shortcake because our mains were too filling and the bowl of tempura took up most of the dessert space.

After billing, we feedback to the staff regarding the cake and when we came out from the wash room, the crews have gathered around to taste the cake themselves and agreed with our feedback. Now, that is something worth praising. Most of the staff usually goes “I’m sorry, we will take note” and brush you off. Taking customer feedback into action is promising for the café.

Till the next time, we shall return for the waffle.
