Simple, warm and cosy, Ippin Café Bar’s modern interior brings out a homely, relaxing dining experience; a perfect place to catch up with friends or unwind after work. In Ippin Café Bar, you will find a huge range of exclusive merchandise from Japan – premium teas, snacks, culinary condiments etc. For appetizer, we were served vegetable sticks (Cucumber, carrot & radish) with an awfully yummy dip that tasted very much like tuna gunkan.

I’m not a fan of onions; you can hardly catch me putting onions in my mouth. But I surprised myself when I took more than two servings of the Nikujaga Pork and Potato Stew. Initially, I was horrified by the onion-filled stew, but it smell too good to give it a miss. Proportionally sliced pork boiled with potatoes, carrots and onion, the stew was an appetizing concoction of sweet and savory. The onion was sweet and they melt in your mouth. The best match for this stew? A bowl of fragrant white rice.

Yakisoba Set ($12 nett) - Yakisoba is popular home cooked dish that is consumed daily in Japan. Stir-fried with carrots, cabbage, onions, sliced pork belly and sweet sauce, this simple but comforting dish comes with a serving of Kobachi and matcha pudding.

Oyakodon Set ($15 nett) - Uniquely, this bowl of Oyakodon comes with a healthy mix of rice and barley. I find the rice a tad too damp, but the chicken chunks on the other hand are cooked to a perfect tenderness and topped with golden runny eggs.

Tonkatsu Set ($20 nett) - New on their menu, the crispy pork cutlet comes with three special sauces to dip in: Hatcho Miso, Benly Tomato Miso & Tonkatsu sauce with mustard. Personally, I prefer the match of pork cutlet with the tomato miso. This set comes with serving of rice, fries, miso soup and matcha pudding.

Deep Fried Oyster Set ($24 nett) - My favourite dish of the entire meal got to be this deep fried battered oysters! Crispy and warm on the outside but soft and smooth on the inside, the oysters were a delight to my taste buds! It comes with a creamy egg mayo dip, but it taste equally good just by itself. Definitely a dish I will return for.
